The Ontario Clean Energy BenefitEffective January 1, 2011, the Ontario government will be providing eligible consumers with a 10 percent reduction on their electricity bills, for the next five years, to help with rising energy costs. This benefit will be in effect until December 31, 2015.The Ontario Clean Energy Benefit will be applied to the total cost of electricity charges relating to electricity consumption including Electricity, Delivery, Regulatory Charges, Debt Retirement Charge, Provincial Benefit/Global Adjustment (if applicable), and the Harmonized Sales Tax (HST). The government estimates Ontarians will be faced with a 46 percent increase in home electricity costs over the next five years to pay for much needed electricity system upgrades. The Ontario Clean Energy Benefit will help customers face the rising cost of electricity. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Residential, seasonal, farm and small business (general service energy-billed with less than 50 kW demand) customers will be eligible. All customers who are eligible for the Regulated Price Plan (RPP) two-tiered prices and Time-of-Use (TOU) prices are eligible for this rebate, including retailer-enrolled customers and customers on spot market pricing as long as they are deemed to be RPP eligible. When will I see the Ontario Clean Energy Benefit on my bill? The first bill with the Ontario Clean Energy Benefit included will be in January. The Ontario Clean Energy Benefit on this bill will be pro-rated to January 1, 2011. How much will I save with the Ontario Clean Energy Benefit? The Ontario Clean Energy Benefit is a 10 percent reduction on your total electricity charges, including HST. An average household can expect to save approximately $150 each year through the Ontario Clean Energy Benefit. Where will the Ontario Clean Energy Benefit appear on my bill?
