Designated Consumers

Effective November 1, 2009, Ontario's public sector including municipalities, colleges and universities, schools, hospitals and other designated consumers no longer qualify as "designated consumers', and will move from paying the Regulated Price Plan (RPP) to an hourly electricity price or a weighted average electricity price.

Eligible designated consumers include:

  • Low volume consumers
  • A consumer who has a demand of 50 kilowatts or less
  • Apartment buildings, condominiums, and residential co-ops
  • A consumer who uses between 150,000 and 250,000 kilowatt hours of electricity annually
  • Farms
