2010 Business Award for Safety

Hydro One Brampton employees were recognized as "Local Heroes" with the 2010 Business Award for Safety in December of the same year by the Brampton Safe City Association.

This award, amoung seven others presented at the 28th Annual Brampton Safe City Awards, came shortly following Hydro One Brampton's announcement that its employees had collectively reached 1.5 million hours without a lost time injury. Never before has the utility achieved this significant milestone.

"Keeping the focus on hours worked without a lost time injury has been a large part of Hydro One Brampton's safety program for many years", stated Remy Fernandes, Hydro One Brampton's President and CEO.

The inscription on Hydro One Brampton's 2010 Business Award for Safety reads as follows:

"Congratulations! What an incredible achievement - 1.5 million hours without a lost time injury - in an industry where technicians often work in adverse or dangerous conditions. This remarkable milestone goes beyond a strong workplace safety program; it is only achieved when employees put safety first, and create a dynamic safety culture where they look out for one another. The employees of Hydro One Brampton do this very well, both on and off-the-job. After work hours, they contribute many hours of volunteer time supporting community causes such as Brampton Safe City, Alzheimer Society, Heart and Stroke Foundation, SickKids Foundation, Ride to Conquer Cancer, CIBC Run for the Cure, The Knights Table, United Way, Wellspring Cancer Support Centre and others. Thank you for being a tremendous inspiration to employee groups across our city, and for everything you do to make Brampton a great place to live."

This is the second Business Award for Safety that Hydro One Brampton has received in the past two years. In 2008, the utility was recognized for our "outstanding contribution to safety in the workplace, to the families of our employees, and to all the citizens in Brampton".
