 |
| Open blinds or curtains in winter to let
the sun help warm your home - close them
in summer to keep the heat out. |
Use ceiling fans, if you have them, to help air
circulate all year round. |
| Clean or change your furnace filter every
month or two (depending on how often it is
being used) to keep it running efficiently. |
Hire a heating, ventilation, & air-conditioning
(HVAC) professional once a year to maintain
& inspect your heating and cooling system
and keep it running efficiently. |
| Keep cold air returns and vents free of
obstacles to allow proper air flow. |
Replace your old thermostat with a new programmable
one - set it at 20°C in the winter
& 26°C in the summer to maximize savings. |
| Close vents and doors (including closet
doors) to rooms not in use. |
Purchase and use a humidifier in the winter -
moisture in the air makes the air feel warmer. |
| Close your fireplace damper and glass doors
when it's not in use - warm air rises and will
escape easily through your chimney. |
Insulate, weatherstrip and caulk around
windows, doors, attic hatches, and all
other outlets on exterior walls. |
| Check the insulation levels in your attic -
it should be well insulated and ventilated
to avoid heat and moisture build-up. |
